 We'd lie all night upon the deck, astern -
Philosophy on pipe smoke rising high
And each from mer-mouths open there to learn,
To know, as narwhals pointed to the sky.
We voyagers, we brothers coasting by -
Forgotten from the shipping lanes of day -
How mighty columned dreams, how taut'd fly
Our colours blowing parallel, our way.
No island chain nor reef could halt our drift;
No tourist shoal beneath could breach our hull.
Yet, still I said farewell, and farewell swift,
For swift you leapt unto your mermaid's pull... I'll light a dream at sail for you, my brother;
Unparalleled, we'll always guide each other. |
